Ohio

  • Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank - Map of service area, volunteer application, statistics on member agencies, and financial donation form. Part of the America's Second Harvest network. Ohio.
  • Cleveland Food Bank - Provides donated food to local agencies, food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters that serve hungry people in Northeast Ohio. News, volunteer opportunities, and list of member agencies. Part of the America's Second Harvest network.
  • Freestore FoodBank - Volunteer opportunities, information on the annual Rubber Duck Regatta fundraiser, description of client services, and online donation form. Part of the America's Second Harvest network. Cincinnati area.
  • Mid-Ohio FoodBank - A not-for-profit organization dedicated to feeding hungry people and increasing awareness about hunger in the community. Includes member agencies and region of coverage, how to help, events, hunger facts, and getting kids involved. Part of the America's Second Harvest network.
  • Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio - Formerly known as the County Cupboard. Serves Lorain, Erie, Huron and Crawford counties. It is a distribution center for donated food and related items, and it solicits, sorts and redistributes usable products to eligible charities with ongoing food programs.
  • Shared Harvest Foodbank - Working to alleviate hunger by soliciting food donations and providing groceries for their network of hunger relief programs. Volunteer needs, how to help, guidelines for starting a pantry, legislative alerts, and recipes. Serving Butler, Darke, Miami, Preble, and Warren Counties.
  • The Foodbank - Provides food to over ninety local food pantries, community kitchens, shelters and similar groups. Runs an on-site Special Dietary Needs Pantry (SDNP). Based in Dayton and serving the Miami Valley.
  • Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank - Aims to end hunger in Northwest Ohio by distributing food and grocery products to community organizations. Includes events, press releases, history, staff, and hunger statistics. Part of the America's Second Harvest network. 

Oklahoma 

  • Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma - Distributes donated food to pantries, kitchens, and shelters in Eastern Oklahoma counties. Includes facts about hunger, calendar of events, list of programs, and how to help. Part of the America's Second Harvest network.
  • Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma - Helps the charitable community effectively feed people in need. The food bank serves 53 central and western Oklahoma counties. Includes special events, programs, agency information, and how to help. 

Oregon 

  • Food For Lane County - Solicits, collects, grows and packages food for distribution through service agencies and programs. Information on services like food box programs, emergency shelters, congregate meal sites, residential treatment services, and children's programs. Part of the America's Second Harvest network.
  • Oregon Food Bank - Site provides information on food donation programs, resources, and advocacy training. List of agencies in the food bank's service area, news, and information for those seeking emergency food aid. Part of the America's Second Harvest network.

Cottage Cheese Patties

  When I married in 1975 I received the first edition (1965) of The  Consumers Cooperative of Berkeley   Co-op Low-Cost Cookbook as a shower gift. Here I was introduced to diversity in low-cost cooking from other cultures. This cookbook along with a few others were my classroom textbooks on how to not only cook but to do it cheaply. Cottage Cheese Patties  3 c. cottage cheese with chives, sieved or whipped 1 1/2-2 cups breadcrumbs  4 eggs 2 tsp salt  2 Tbsp chopped parsley margarine or lard 1/2 green pepper, chopped 1 can mushroom pieces 1 can tomato sauce OR 1 can enchilada sauce  Serves 5 - Prep time - 40 minutes  Mix the cottage cheese, 1 c. of the bread crumbs, parsley, salt, and 2 beaten eggs;  shape into small patties. Next, beat the other 2 eggs; roll the patties first in more bread crumbs again.  Let them stand for 15 min. while you make the sauce. Melt 2 tbsp margarine and saute' the green pepper until tender. Day 7 - Amish Friendship Bread - Do nothing

    Amish friendship bread or cake is your basic sweetened quick-bread. What makes it unique is the cup of starter you add to the batter, which adds leavening and a bit of sourdough tang to the final bread. This starter has (theoretically) been handed down through the generations from the Amish themselves. If followed exactly, each recipe makes enough starter for several loaves. You're then supposed to share this excess starter amongst your friends and thus continue propagating the recipe.
