We made them this past Christmas and Oy Vey! What a job. The dough is very buttery which makes for a flakey shortbread-like cookie.

My friend Cindy finally caved in and gave me this recipe back in the early 1970s. She teased me for years, gifting me with a large batch every Christmas.
She said it was an old Norwegian family recipe - all I know is, it's a lot of work but worth it.
